The Shriving of Miss Esme Stamp - Preface...

From time to time visitors to my blog can browse my serialization of ‘The Shriving of Miss Esme Stamp’ written some ten years ago for radio I began to think it was time to put pen to paper once more and present this story for the internet. The Shriving of Miss Esme Stamp is set in London just after the Great War (WW1) and against the background of a middle class upbringing. It tells the emotional and uplifting story of a young girl thrown into womanhood by a world of fantasy and spiritual re-incarnation…

Reflection of The Thames...

Often, I think Rob Morey’s intriguing and dramatic view of The Thames captured in the reflective windows of the many office buildings that line the River Thames still holds a fascination after 6 years. First featured on my blog in 2009, Rob is still clicking away with his Olympus digital camera and planning further trips around the capital!

The Three Horseshoes at Smallford...

Image
Our search for the ultimate eating house led us this time to The Three Horseshoes in Smallford nr St. Albans. Hertfordshire. UK. Here the chefs have put a lot of thought into the menu brimming with sophisticated tastes and textures. We dipped into starters like Aromatic Spiced Calamari and mains like juicy Roast Duck Breast and Slow-cooked Lamb Shoulder. A nice crackling log fire in this idyllic country pub rounded off a wonderful dinner that we all enjoyed.

The Shriving of Miss Esme Stamp...

Serialized by Patrick George Callaghan                                                         Part 9 By noon there had been two callers on the telephone. Esme had rushed from her room each time with raised expectancy; both disappointingly friends of her mother. Surely he would phone; he said he would. She knew there was little chance of speaking to him, but just to know he had done so would lift her spirit. She would soar among the pink and yellow clouds with their gentle embracing touch in a warm and purple-blue sky. She was bored with her room. Stretched on her bed. She had read bits of a boring so, so, romantic novel and lazily tossed it aside. At one o’clock Emily would bring her something on a tray that was for sure. She felt desultory; like some bird held captive prey. She knew this exile would not keep her from him. She knew too it was of her reckless way. At half past twelve the sound of a car handbrake brought her from an un-positive doze. A single red rose

Still Open All Hours...

BBC bosses have ordered a new series of corner shop sitcom Still Open All Hours, after being impressed with the Christmas special . Six episodes of the series, starring Sir David Jason as Granville , will be filmed in Doncaster and shown later this year. The show, which starred Sir David with late comic Ronnie Barker as stammering Albert Arkwright, originally ran from 1973 to 1985 but was revived for a special episode on Boxing Day. That one-off pulled in more than nine million viewers on the day with around three million more watching it on catch-up.     http://www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/open-hours-david-jason-return-3093635#ixzz2sYFsVgUv Follow us: @DailyMirror on Twitter | DailyMirror on Facebook
